My Sweetest Guitar Learning Moment

September 10th 2009 04:34
Once upon a time... Stop right there! I knew it’s so lame and old-fashioned to open the story lane with these words. However, something would never get old or being eliminated by times, such as the acoustic guitar.

Hmm…, according to the history of guitar, the evidence shown that the precursors of the classical guitar have been found in 4,000 years ago in central Asia or ancient India. One of the oldest guitars was the 3,300-year-old stone carving, “Hittite bard”.

Did you know that the word, “Guitar” was originated from Spanish, “Guitarra”? The modern guitar is being adapted and developed, from the original two-string to the four-string. Later on, the four-string “guitar” was once again evolved into two different types by 1200 A.D., which as:

The guitarra moresca (Moorish guitar), and
The guitarra latina (Latin guitar).

However, in the mid 14th centuries, those two different types were dropped and canceled by the royal family. They decided to give the four-string instrument a very simple name, “guitar”!

The guitars had become one of the most playable musical instruments in the world. According to the statistic, there are more than 100 million guitar players, where 16 percent of them are professionals, while another 43 percent are semi-pros!

To be honest, the reason why I first learn to play guitar while I was 10-year-old was very simple. Wait a minute! It doesn’t have to do with the girlfriend stuff… Ok, let me reveal the mystery behind it. I remembered very clearly that I learnt to play my first guitar song, “I Saw Her Standing There” by The Beatles. It’s for my granny’s 70th birthday party! Honestly, I saw my granny cried like a baby, when she heard this song. I thought she’s really touching by the unexpected surprise.

Since then, I’ve learning many song with my guitar and honestly, I’ve used the guitar to become one of my secret weapons, especially when I attends a party, where my friends always want me to play at least several songs to entertain them.

I enjoyed the guitar playing moment, as I loved to bring some fun moment to my friends.
Trust me; guitar isn’t as hard as you thought. You can simply excel the basic guitar playing, by learning from the guitar lessons on DVD in less than three months (I used to learn my guitar by watching the video tapes)!

That’s all, it’s time for me to pick up the guitar and playing some songs, as tomorrow I still need to perform in front of a bunch of cute orphans.

PS: Picture thanks to 4playguitar.

I bet you must be proud of your son, Katyzzz. Honestly, as the parents, we should let our children do whatever he/she wants, as long as they didn't involved in the drugs, alcohol or vandalism...
